Sally Kern’s Proclamation

Thanks to Beamish for the heads up on this truly UNBELIEVABLE one…
Oklahoma Representative Sally Kern is at it again, this time blaming our current economic crisis on people who participate in “abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, and many other forms of debauchery.”
Give me a break! In reality, our economic crisis was because of greed, reckless spending, over-inflated real estate values, irresponsible lending practices, and stuff like that. This recession has nothing to do with my divorce or my “illegitimate” birth.
Kern is clearly a brain-washed lunatic, but I’m also very troubled by the reports I’ve heard that all the other Oklahoma lawmakers are going to sign this proclamation at the capital building tomorrow (July 2). Like who? Is anyone gonna be there to protest the blatant convergence of church and state? I’m totally disgusted.

I’d like to kindly point out that this oft-repeated Benjamin Franklin quote–“Freedom is not a gift bestowed upon us by other men, but a right that
belongs to us by the laws of God”–is incomplete. Kern conveniently lopped off two little words from the end:
“…and nature.”

Lol, the short version:
“Whereas this bunch of white dudes said some stuff that I’m totally taking out of context to suit my own political needs, and whereas my version of God is a douche who hates his own creations, I call upon the citizens of Oklahoma to stop being different from me in any way, dammit, or else for lightning to hit them for it (not that I’m wrathful or anything!).”

i just sent kern this email:
The First Amendment states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” Your Oklahoma Citizens’ Proclamation for Morality attempts to situate Christianity as the major religion of the United States, thereby ignoring and disgracing the Constitution. Was that your goal, Representative Kern? Are you aware of the First Amendment and the rights it affords citizens of the United States, even Oklahomans? I am not a Christian, and I am a voting citizen of the United States and of the State of Oklahoma. Please, practice your religion as you like, but do not attempt to establish a state or national religion in the name of Oklahomans.
